How to Stay in the Honeymoon Phase For Longer

Whether you are recently engaged or recently married, you have likely experienced the euphoria of the so-called ‘honeymoon phase’. Like many, you may fear that this joy filled phase will eventually come to an end. Consider the following tips and take them to heart to stay in the honeymoon phase for as long as possible.

Be Spontaneous

Being spontaneous can become incredibly difficult once you are in a committed relationship and have started to settle down together. To be spontaneous despite being around one another constantly takes some serious effort and thought. Don’t be mistaken in thinking that spontaneity only counts if it is a grand gesture. It can be as simple as bringing your partner their favorite tub of ice cream for dessert. Being spontaneous conveys to your partner that you are thinking of them. It’s an easy way to heighten intensity and excitement!

Respect ‘Me Time’

No matter how much you and your partner love one another, time alone is incredibly important. It can be easy to get burnt out on one another’s company and can eventually lead to some irritation. Take any request for alone time seriously, whether it is to hang out with friends or just to enjoy a hobby. In general, try to spend some time without one another at least once a week. Depending on your relationship, you may need more or less ‘me time’.

Keep Your Effort Up

Once you have been married for a time, it can be easy to become complacent in your relationship. In other words, you may not be putting in as much effort as you were at the start. Keeping your effort up is essential. It is one of the ways that your partner perceives you as being interested in them and committed to the relationship. This can be translated in a variety of ways. From taking the initiative to do chores around the house or plan a date.

Honesty is Key

You’ve probably heard it before, that honesty is key in a relationship. Being honest can seem obvious at times, such as when you know you have gone against your partner’s wishes. However, honesty is also essential in terms of expressing your feelings towards your partner. Not being open about how you are feeling can lead to resentment in the long run. Speak candidly and calmly to your partner on the regular about your needs. Ask for them to communicate with you as well, and be sure to actively listen.

Don’t let the Romance Die

No matter how much time passes, it’s important that you keep the romance in your relationship alive. It doesn’t take a lot to show your partner that you care. It can be a quick kiss on the cheek, just because, or dinner at a fancy restaurant. There are countless ways to convey your love and devotion. All it takes is a bit of effort and creativity!
