Must-Visit Destinations For Out-of-State Wedding Guests

If you are hosting your wedding in or around the Houston area, out-of-state family and friends will be in need of some entertainment. Rather than leave them to their own devices, give them a helping hand with our list of must-visit destinations. Aside from delicious BBQ & beautiful bluebells, the Lone Star State also has some stellar attractions.

 

Houston Arboretum & Nature Garden

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Garden is a beautiful outdoor recreation center, perfect for a casual day of walking. Pack a picnic and stroll through a number of trails, where you will  see a variety of plants native to Texas. You might also stumble across some wildlife! The trails at this location are suitable for both kids and adults and showcase several landscapes. Be sure to visit the swamp area, cross the boardwalk, and take a break near Meadow Pond.

 

Conroe Recreational Areas

About 40 minutes North of Houston, the city of Conroe offers some of the best outdoor recreation in the area. In addition to several parks perfect for kiddos to play at, there is also the gorgeous Lake Conroe. Spanning 21,000 acres, the lake is ideal for fishing and water sports, or even just a swim during the warmer months of the year. If you intend to stay in town for a few days, there are a number of campgrounds nearby. If you’d rather kick back in style, check out the luxurious Margaritaville Lake Resort.

 

Mercer Botanic Gardens

A free excursion, the Mercer Botanic Garden is a natural area covering 400 acres of land. The beautifully maintained gardens feature bamboo, color displays, daylilies, endangered species, ferns, gingers, herbs, tropicals, and more. It also features two playgrounds, a boardwalk and picnic areas. It is a fantastic location to visit for a stroll through nature, where you can learn along the way.

 

The Beer Can House

A truly unique and one-of-a-kind destination, The Beer Can House is a folk art house located in Houston. Located at 222 Malone Street, the home is covered in a variety of beer cans and bottles, as well as other beer paraphernalia. Estimated to include over 50,000 beer cans, this house is a beer and art lovers paradise. 

 

Hurricane Harbor Splashtown

For guests with children, Hurricane Harbor Splashtown is a great place to cool off and have some fun in the warmer months. A Six Flags water park, it features all of your favorite slides, as well as a lazy river and wave pool. 

 

The Woodlands Mall

An enclosed 2-story shopping plaza, The Woodlands Mall is a great way to kill time. With more than 160 stores and retail outlets, you are sure to find a handful of your favorite brands. Aside from the shopping, the plaza is also rather scenic and is home to several delicious dining establishments.

 

Old Town Spring

Old Town Spring is a Historic turn-of-the-century settlement featuring a variety of Victorian-style restaurants and shops. This destination is unique and a lot of fun for the whole family. Go for a leisurely stroll through the town and stop for a bite or two along the way. Retailers include locally owned boutiques and businesses, as well as a historic museum.

 

Trader’s Village Houston

Open on Saturday’s and Sunday’s, Trader’s Village Houston is a 100+ acre flea market. It features thousands of shops, offering everything from collectibles, to crafts and more. There are also a handful of rides onsite to give kids a break from all of the walking. While there, be sure to stop by Gary’s Grill for a delicious Sopapilla Sundae!

 

Moorhead’s Blueberry Farm

Located in Conroe, Moorhead’s Blueberry Farm is open for picking during the Blueberry Season (late May through Mid-July)! This fun & tasty outdoor activity is perfect for kids and adults alike. Spend the afternoon filling a bucket or two with over 20 varieties of blueberries, and only pay for what you pick. Heads up, the Blueberry Farm is a cash-only establishment!
